peel & eat shrimp

Peel & Eat shrimp always takes me somewhere warm and somewhere along the beach. I spend those long Minnesota winters imagining myself eating fresh shrimp in between sips of a salty corona and white sand beneath my toes. Winter is long gone, but I have yet to see the ocean so I can only think of the next best thing.

I’ve had some amazing salt & pepper shrimp before so that is where I wanted to go with this. So flavorful that cocktail sauce isn’t even given a thought. The marinade is simply olive oil, salt & pepper and then the shrimp were grilled, making them so good and so reminiscent of the beach that I could almost feel the sand beneath my toes.

Peel & Eat Shrimp – 2 servings

  • 1 lb peel-on jumbo shrimp
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • salt & pepper

Toss shrimp with olive oil and salt & pepper. Heat grill to medium-high. Place shrimp on grill and grill for about 3 minutes per side until shrimp is cooked through. Grind a little more pepper on if desired.

  2. All the shrimp I’ve eaten thus far in my life (which would only be the last two months…) have been pre-peeled for me. 😀 But I see these huge prawns at CostCo that still have their little leggies attached, and wonder if I could try them out.

I will say I’ve made up for a lot of lost time in my shrimp eating though – I have shrimp just about every time for our employee dinner at the TF. So good!

Q: If you have to peel the outsides away, don’t you lose a lot of the flavor you had from the salt and pepper? Or is it absorbed through the cooking?

my mom used to always peel my shrimp for me. that’s the last time i ate a bunch of shrimp! i’m pretty lazy.

  4. this reminds me of the “Houlihan shrimp boil”! It’s peel and eat shrimp at its best. They are boiled in seasoned water along with veggies and cloves of garlic for hours. Pour on to a table line of newspaper and enjoy. We will have to give it a try sometime!

  10. There is nothing like shrimp on the coast. Any coast, really. Just give me a large body of water, beach and seafood! These look great.
