in my cupboard: jalfreezi sauce

As much as I love spending time in the kitchen, sometimes it just isn’t feasible. We all have the nights when spending an hour to make dinner is just not an option. One of my favorite “after soccer, before next activity meals”  growing up was tortellini with pesto. My Mom always makes batches of pesto when the basil is blooming and then freezes it to use throughout the year. I have very fond memories of those rushed, but always finding time to eat as a family, meals.

Unfortunately I don’t have any home-made pesto to toss with tortellini, but I have something that comes pretty close, with an ethnic twist. Jalfreezi Simmer Sauce makes dinner taste like it’s been simmering away for hours, instead of minutes. When served with some naan, brown rice and tofu, you can almost pretend that you are at your favorite Indian joint.

The sauce is delicious and the ingredient list is real. Does it get any better than that? I’ve had pre-made sauces in the past and was never thrilled, but this I can say will be making it to my pantry again.

  1. My go to meal is always some kind of pasta dish. So easy to make and you can add pretty much anything in it to up the health value! Plus I’m pretty much a carb addict so I have that going for me as well;)

  2. Sounds good. I’ve been trying a few sauces from our Indian market since I can’t seem to master the dishes yet. They make a great meal!

  3. Jalfrezi, eh? Never heard of it.. but I DO have a Seeds of Change coupon to use up! I couldn’t even pick a “go-to” meal… there are so many quick and easy “recipes” when you think outside of the box. I guess stir fries are what I typically do, because you can throw pretty much anything in there and it will turn out good!

    I have heard of seeds of change but never that sauce!!!! My quick meal is frozen veggies with marinara (not as glamorous as yours)

    I have never heard of that sauce before! I am going to have to try that! My easy and fast meal is boxed organic whole wheat mac and cheese with some added frozen veggies. This was dinner last night actually ha!

    My go to meal is pretty similar actually: Trader Joe’s Masala Simmer Sauce, chicken (just cut up and add to the sauce), basmati rice (hello rice cooker) and sometimes Trader Joe’s dal (microwave 2 mins) and naan (in oven for 2 minutes). It is such a great fast meal. Will have to try out the jalfreezi sauce too and shake things up!

    i totally depend on prepped sauces for quickie meals. and not so quick ones, too.

  10. I have never heard of that! Actually, I’ve never had any type of Indian food at all but it looks like I am missing out. My go to quick food is veggie lasagna, only because we almost always have some frozen in our freezer here (because when we make it, we make mass amounts of it lol).

  11. I have never heard of this sauce but I will look for it next time I shop at the Indian supermarket near my house, thanks for informing me!
    My go to meal is usually hummus I doctor up from a can or baba ghanouj (the eggplant dip)
