So Long Summer

Nothing says Midwest summer night like corn on the cob and a B.L.T. It always brings back memories of swimming at the lake and dinners on the porch. I’ve done an awful job of representing my Midwest culture this summer as this is my first time having corn on the cob. But when I finally saw some organic, local corn I took full advantage.
The taster likes to cook it in some crazy way (a little milk and sugar in the water – anyone else ever heard of that?) I like mine straight up grilled. But what don’t I like grilled? So we compromised and cooked it in the crazy water mixture and then finished it off on the grill.
It was perfect and totally hit the spot. Fresh organic (albiet white) bread, uncured bacon and local corn from WF’s and tomatoes and lettuce from the farmer’s market.
And instead of dinners on the porch, looking at trees, I now have this:

Beautiful sunsets in Minneapolis

Why do I keep thinking you live in Wisconsin?

My mother in law cooks it with milk and sugar – I think it might be in Better Homes and Garden or Betty Crocker or something. It's pretty good with or without the milk/sugar combo.

We were given 5 dozen ears of corn last week by a farmer. Yep, 60 ears of corn. We gave 2 dozen to my family, ate a dozen at a family party, and cut the rest off the cob and froze it.

I'm with Cafe Cyan..I for some reason thought you lived in Wisconsin too! A few comments ago I think I told you I was born there…and you're probably wondering why…well, I thought you were from there! lol. I LOVE BLTs. Haven't had one in ages. You've inspired me!

Cafe cyan – that is so funny about the 60 ears of corn, my parents live sweet corn and we would literally spend a day cooking, cutting, bagging and freezing enough bags of corn to last the winter! Sounds so little house on the prairie, huh?

I am from wisconsin but live in Minneapolis, so I do make it back to wisconsin quite a bit for friends and family!

I haven't eaten enough corn yet this summer… 🙂 I have never heard of cooking corn with milk & sugar, but now I'm curious…

My mom cooks it with milk and sugar in the water too. She said the milk softens the kernels and the sugar sweetens it up a bit. At least that is what she says.
